Welcome to the new year.
Are you a goal writer or new year resolution kind of person? I would say I'm more of a goal writer than a resolution maker. Every year I make a point to write down 10 goals I have, big or small.
Last year some of the goals that I accomplished were:
Plant a garden
Travel to Florida
Move past Unit 2 on Duolingo (I'm learning Spanish)
Plant a garden was super important to me because I had been living in an apartment for 3 years. Todd built me a garden box so I could grow some flowers and vegetables. While that brought me immense joy for what we had, I longed to dig in real dirt. Not dirt from a bag.
In June of 2022 we moved from the Pacific Northwest to the Midwest. Never in a million years did I think we would end up in Wisconsin. But, it ended up being exactly everything we wanted and more. My grandparents own a 80 year old farm with a large garden, chickens, and cows. To wake up early every morning to stick my hands in the dirt and tend to tiny little sprouts cured my soul.
My family line has actually lived in this exact county since the 1800's. They were among the first European settlers in the area. My great grandmother taught in a one room school house just down the road. We have a family cemetery where uncles who fought in the Civil War are buried. I have an ancestor named Lillian who died at 27 from an illness who is buried in the same cemetary. She was my same age. Sometimes my heart breaks for her even though she died 100 years ago.
It's hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that this is where "my people" come from. There is no more searching for where "home" is for me, because I am home!
The goals I have written down for this year are mostly small.

Learn to plant flowers
My next big dream is to have a flower farm. I haven't spoken this dream out loud to anyone except to Todd. I want to plant dahlias, snap dragons, cosmos, zinnias, sunflowers, the list goes on! My goal is to create a place where magic exists. More to come on that.
Also, incase you are wondering, I did make it past Unit 2 on Duolingo and am now on Unit 7. If you're also learning Spanish on Duolingo let me know! We should be friends there :)
2022 was an amazing year and I am excited to see what 2023 brings us!
